Strawberries ~ Edwin Morgan. Poet.

Abandoned like a child

from your eager mouth

the taste of Strawberries

in my memory

lean back again

let me love you

Following on from my post yesterday about my Grass Snake at the allotment and Emily Dickinson’s poem Snake, today it’s still about the Strawberries in this beautiful emotional poem Strawberries by the Scottish poet Edwin Morgan who was born in Glasgow 1920. For me he was a master at creating Concrete or shape poetry that brought with it the perfect visual and emotional responses that some special Poets are able to bring out from somewhere deep inside. He was awarded the OBE in 1982 and the Queens Gold Medal in 2000 as well as being Glasgows First Poet Laureate from 1999-2002. The above is a small excerpt of Strawberries which if you are not familiar with, go check it out!
No Strawberries at present on the allotment but so much preparation that needs doing! But this photo from last year will give me the incentive…
